What is the Right Angle Cross of Explanation about?
Some people can hold a lamp to a map and make the whole thing legible. The Right Angle Cross of Explanation belongs to them. Its four faces all deal in understanding and its transmission: Gate 4 in the Ajna formulates answers, Gate 43 in the Ajna receives insight whole, Gate 23 in the Throat translates the strange into words a room can receive, and Gate 49 in the Solar Plexus holds the principles by which ideas are accepted or rejected. What the faces share is a refusal to leave things unexplained. The trap is explaining to be right rather than to be understood. An answer offered to win an argument rarely lands, and principles defended without warmth start to look like walls.
