Line 1 · Modesty · standing where you are

Loving your own company is a legitimate way of being in the world. Withdraw without guilt when the crowd costs more than it gives. The self you protect is the one you’ll have to live with. Solitude that returns bearing gifts never has to defend itself.

Line 3 · The martyr · selfhood tested by knocks

You learn who you are by getting it wrong in public and surviving. Each collision refines the behavior; none of it is shameful. Don’t let the bruises write your story; the learning does. Line 5 · The heretic · living under projection

People read meaning into how you carry yourself, sometimes more than you put there. Live visibly by your own code and let the projections pass.
